Essa nova tecnologia, cabos de Fibra Óptica LC/LC de 50/125um, oferece quase três vezes a largura de banda em relação à fibra multimodo convencional de 62.5um, com desempenho rivalizando com o cabo de modo único, a um custo muito reduzido. Os cabos LOMMF permitem transmissão serial de 10Gb em distâncias estendidas na janela de comprimento de onda de 850nm, onde os lasers de superfície emissores de cavidade vertical de baixo custo (VCSELs) possibilitam uma solução de alta largura de banda de custo eficaz.
